This is a fun and challenging yoga class focused on improving both flexibility/mobility & strength/stability.  A regular yoga practice has many mind-body benefits and for a long time I thought my yoga practice was both keeping me strong and protecting me from injury.  Then I began to study movement science and learned that yoga alone didn’t provide enough load to keep tissues healthy and resilient.  These Yoga Strength classes continue to evolve as I learn new ways to bring more strength training into my own yoga asana practice while maintaining the mindful aspects of the practice, the attention to breath, and the mind-body connection.

 

Not your typical yoga class, sequencing will be based on an updated understanding of the science of stretching and improving flexibility/mobility, as well as the importance of strength training to increase the resilience of our muscles and tendons and reduce the incidence of pain, injury or “tight muscles” in daily life.  We’ll explore familiar postures using diverse variations to create greater movement options. Laughter encouraged.

 

Working to build strength will be a big focus of this class and there will be lots of options and variations so you will be able to work on building strength from the level you have now. While you’ll be encouraged to challenge your strength in this class you’ll also be in control of choosing variations that will be the most useful for you as well as deciding when you need to take time to rest.  Self-care is always a priority.

In these classes you will:

  • Improve your strength and active range of motion (mobility-training)
  • Have fun as you explore movement and discover new things about the way you move
  • Experience familiar yoga postures in new ways
  • Learn how to activate your hamstrings & glutes (and other muscles too!)
  • Work on upper body strength
  • Play with variable movement

*PLEASE READ: I’ve added a 6-week pre-registered option.  The 6-week option is not a flexible pass and is only valid for this class for the dates Nov 4 – Dec 16 (Mondays 5:30) or Nov 7 – Dec 12 (Thursdays lunch).  Both the 8-class pass and the FALL All Class Pass can be used to attend these Yoga Strength classes on any remaining dates for the season OR any of the other regular classes this fall (Yoga Nidra, Yoga for Low Back & Hips, Yoga Strength & Restore). The 8-class pass and the Fall All Class Passes  are valid September through December 2019.  All passes are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another person or extended beyond December 2019. Fall All Class Passes offer a 50% discount on monthly restorative classes and a 15% discount on workshops, special classes, and pre-registered class series.
